We all want to have homes that people feel comfortable visiting. There are many strategies that can be used in this regard, but if you plan on entertaining in your home, realise that having a home that is beautiful isn’t all that is needed for entertaining. People enjoy attending parties in homes where function and beauty go together.
1. Think Functionality
If you want your home to be one in which people will enjoy themselves in a party atmosphere, then think functionality. One quick way is to focus on how people use spaces at parties and adjust your home accordingly. For example, having plenty of coffee tables and side tables for drinks and food is of paramount importance. This very simple point couldn’t be much more important. If people don’t have places to put down food and drink, they subconsciously don’t feel at home. As a result, you will have little chance of achieving that “at home” feel that is needed for any good party.
2. Look at All Your Spaces
People have a tendency of moving around a bit at a party. This means you might want to give some thought to how the flow of traffic might move throughout your home. You may spot hallways or other points in your home where people are likely to congregate. When you find these areas, consider putting small side tables or even bookcases in the area for people to place food and drink. Just remember to also provide coasters and other areas for people to place cups and small plates as to avoid ringing or staining.
3. Consider Accident-Proofing
Another important point to consider is that of accidents and staining. If you notice that potential gathering spots are on carpeting or other potentially delicate flooring, then consider placing inexpensive carpeting before your parties take place. This might be a little extra work, but it will also provide you with some peace of mind as well. A frantic host that is constantly darting around looking for spills and accidents is definitely not much fun!
4. Music Everywhere
If you are considering having many parties in your home, then you might want to give special attention to music. In particular, you may want to think about how the music will flow throughout your home. Often people will have a central stereo system where all the music originates. However, this may not be the optimal choice. When there is a centralized source of music, it can become too loud and this can create an assortment of problems. Instead consider adding a music system that allows you to put have music flowing throughout your home.
