All too often new parents are stuck when it comes to decorating the baby’s nursery. Conventional wisdom is that a nursery should be plain and simple, pink for a girl, blue for a boy. Add in a crib and changing station and leave it at that.
Not anymore, however.
Now, parents, especially those who love design, are treating a baby’s room as a fresh slate for home decor. Why not give the room a bit of personality? Throw out those old tired colours and look at what some parents are doing to make their nursery a place that most adults would love to spend a few hours.
Choose a Theme
One of the best ways to get started with working with a nursery is to choose a theme, this gives parents a head start on how to get going with decorating the room.
What we love about this nursery is that it is nautically themed, but not in a childish or cartoon-y way at all. This nursery screams boy with the look, but at the same time the decor mixes the cuddly toys with some vintage or antique pieces.
Use Colour and Textures
Keep in mind, that just like adults, children also love colours and textures. So, why not include them in the baby’s nursery decor? Having a room that can stand out and be of interest means that it is one that can grow with your child over time.
This room is a perfect example, it uses a rich brown as the base, but still keeps things soft a feminine by throwing in various shades of pink. This design is going to be quite easy to continue as she grows up.
Use Toys as Decor
One great thing about baby and toddler toys like books and building blocks is that they are incredibly colourful. These in themselves make absolutely perfect decorations to start. Why not have a bit of fun in the room and instead of hiding away the toys for later use, showcase them?
We love this example, here mum and dad took all of baby’s books, and decided to put them directly on display. Not only are they easy to grab when bedtime comes, but they make for a stunning visual modern art look bursting with plenty of colour.
Any of these design concepts are going to be able to give your baby a fantastic room to call their own that is bursting with personality and design inspirations. These rooms are going to be easy to convert as well down the road.
