New Year, New Home Design Inspiration
Now that we are all a week into the new year, the holiday decor has been put away and we have fully recovered from New Year’s Eve, it’s time to start fresh for 2013. What better way to start off the new year right with new home design inspiration, it is the perfect way to give your home a new feel and update the decor.
Not only will it be an exciting little project to embark on (who doesn’t love shopping for new home decor), but you can really give your home a totally new look. No one says that you must commit to a particular home design for life. Spice things up a bit!
So how do we set off on this project, easily, let’s get to it.
Find New Accessories
If you are worried that your budget is not going to allow for a massive overhaul, there is no need. A new design inspiration can come from even the simplest of changes within your home (and your budget).First, determine what you do have to spend. Even if you only have a couple hundred dollars, you can make some massive changes around the home. Check out some of your favourite websites and magazines for design inspiration, pop into a few estate sales and nose around mum’s attic to see what you can find to add to your design theme.
Find new pillows and curtains in fabrics you love, and switch them up with some of the older accessories. You can even purchase new slipcovers for your sofa and chairs to give the living area a completely new look.
Change up the Furnishings
For those who are looking for some more ambitious design inspiration, consider purchasing new furniture. This will surely be an easy way to completely change the look and feel of your home and really start fresh.
If the idea of buying all new furniture is a big daunting, then make smaller changes. Take some of your existing pieces of furniture and apply a new coat of varnish or stain. Changing up the colour of some of your furniture will enable you to bring in an accent colour you have always been wanting or can really enhance the look of the room.
Keep your larger pieces such as sofas and chairs and make changes to your coffee table and side tables. While you certainly won’t achieve a totally brand new look, changing key pieces of home furnishings can make a world of difference.
Paint the Walls
Another great way to bring some new design inspiration into your home is to grab a few cans of paint. A new coat of paint on the walls
can certainly brighten up a living area and give it a completely uplifting new feel.
If you want to be bold, find a few new colours that you would love to try in your home, paint a few squares on the walls and take at least a weekend to consider how the wall colours react to sunlight, cloudy days, and your home lighting.
Once you decide which is your preferred colour, get painting! You should be able to transform a room in just a few hours, depending on the size. Many people also love to paint one wall a different colour than the rest, creating a statement piece. Or take one wall and hang a large grouping of pictures, you could even paint a mural. The possibilities truly can be endless.
Enjoy your “New” Home
Once you have made just a few changes, your home can end up being something completely different, the design inspiration simply starts and ends with your own imagination.
So, go ahead and experiment. Move furniture about, buy new bits and bobs, add a coat of paint and hang up some new art work. In just a few weeks you can have created the home of your dreams that you didn’t even know you had in the first place!
