Don’t Have a Home Library? Create One!
One of the many things I love about old stately homes is that they always seem to have an incredible library. It’s something that makes a room infinitely more interesting than just a typical living area.
Most people, though, feel like they just can’t build a library in their home now. There are plenty of excuses: no room, not many books, no built in shelving systems, and that’s just to start. But, just because you don’t have a home that comes with a library doesn’t mean that you can’t give yourself a little piece of one.
You don’t need a whole room to start. How about just one wall, or even just one corner. All it takes is one solid bookcase to begin. Load it up with your collection of books, and if you don’t have that many, add in some trinkets, artwork or accessories to fill in the gaps. This is exactly how most collectors get started in building their home library.
Having a personal retreat to get away from the stress of life and delve into a good book can provide the perfect little sanctuary in the home as well. It can be the perfect spot to have a cup of tea with visitors, or to just sit and enjoy time in the moment.
If you do want to set up a library in your home, but don’t have a full room for the space make sure
that wherever you do set up your library you will have a sitting area to read. Set up a few pieces of furniture that will enable you to get comfortable and relax. A comfy chair, a table that allows a lamp and spot for a glass of wine (or two), and you will be set.
Now that your home library is all set up just the way you like it, all you have to work on now is building your collection of books! Many people who might not already have quite a few books in their possession frequent old used bookstores or flea markets to find interesting books or old leather bound copies for a more affordable price.
From there, everything else is simply just left up to your imagination. Piece together a pair or even three bookcases along a large wall if you can and make that a focal piece of your home. As you collect old books, or souvenirs from travel place them on the shelves to put your own personality right on display. It will certainly create a brilliant conversation piece in your home and give visitors a touch of insight into your personality.
