Chair the Opposition

Conference rooms are like a window into the priorities of a company. A well thought out conference room will speak measures about how the company prioritizes clients and employees above the bottom line. A conference room that is simply thrown together at the last second with little though or effort says that the owners are too cheap and busy to care much about their clients and employees. So when you are picking some chairs for your conference room there are some things you should avoid:

Trend- While your chairs should be attractive, don’t pick anything too trendy. Often trend and popularity don’t coincide with comfort. You would do better to stick to traditional or simple designs that speak of sensibility rather than popularity.

Noise- Before you purchase a chair, test it out. Spin, roll, tilt and swivel in the chair. Does it make noise, how much noise? A chair that is too noisy will distract people during a meeting. Also keep around a can of WD-40 just in case some chairs develop a squeak over time.

Stationary- Stationary chairs are not the best choice for conference rooms because they hold still. They may look more attractive, but they do not adjust for comfort. A rolling chair will usually have height adjustment, back adjustment and some time arm rest adjustment.

Color- While you may be tempted to purchase brightly colored chairs, the best thing is still something more subtle is generally preferred in an office setting. Black, blue, brown, and grey are usually the best colors to choose from. Now if your business is unique and full of color (literally) than sometimes more vibrant colors are appreciated.

Absent arm rests- Try and purchase chairs that come with arm rests. Although you may always be at a table and able to rest your arms there, arm rests that are properly adjusted can help with overall comfort. Arm rests also contribute to better sitting posture, which lessens back pain.
