Coping with a Cold

When most of us get a cold, we just struggle through it. Unless we are very sick we still go to work cook dinner, get gas, and play golf. We are a people who refuse to be tethered down but the restraints of a cold. If you are one who has to or prefers to struggle through a cold without stopping much, then here are some ideas of how to cope through your colds.

1. Tissue- pack around lots of tissue or handkerchiefs. Wiping your nose on your sleeve or anything else is rather juvenile, so carry a large stash of tissues or handkerchiefs so that you will always have something to blow your nose on. After you blow your nose, you really should use hand sanitizer, especially if you are in public.

2. Cough drops or lozenges- This little dandies can be of great help. They will help to keep your throat moisturized in between gulps of water. They may also help control a cough if they have on.

3. Silence- If your cold is centralized in the throat area then you will do well to avoid talking. While you may be able to talk well for the moment, a time may come when you have to cut yourself short. Too much talking can aggravate the throat and cause more pain.

4. Salt water- Gargling salt water can help your sore throat to feel better. This can be easily done in the workplace as long as you have access to a bathroom

5. Showers- Obviously this is best done at home. A hot shower or bath can help to break up any nasty lung buildup.

6. Whiskey- Small shots of whiskey mixed with some hot honey and some lemon juice can really make you feel better. The whiskey will numb your throat and the alcohol can help you to relax.
