If you have a drab living room, an outdated kitchen or a tiny bathroom you have probably considered the idea of a remodel. You see pictures of what you want, you find features you like in other peoples home and you covet the dream house on your favorite home design channel, but yet your little project remain undone. Well, to get the ball rolling the first thing you have to do is plan, consider what it is you want done. Here are some tips to help you figure out how to begin your design project.
1. Budget- Know how much money you have to play with so that you won’t over spend when you begin making purchases for your redesign project.
2. Theme- Ask yourself if you want there to be some sort of theme guiding your project. This is especially helpful in small rooms like the bathroom, your child’s room or the kitchen. Once you know what theme a room will have you will be able to purchase things that will go along with the theme.
3. Colors- Colors are important. Does the room you are redoing need a pain job? If yes, then what color? What kind of paint? Do you want eco friendly paint? How many cans of paint will you need? All these questions need to be considered before you start your project.
4. Repairs- Is there anything in the room you are redoing that is old, broken or unsafe? Be sure that these repairs take priority before any cosmetic work is done. Any faulty wiring or bad plumbing should be replaced before the walls are painted or the floor redone. You would hate to have lovely walls that are singed if faulty wires spark and cause a small fire. Safety must come first when remodeling a room.
