The advent of the ergonomic chair has been the saving grace for many cubical workers the world over. Many typists and accounts have been saved the agony of back pain and poor posture due to bad office chairs. But, if you have been using your ergonomic chair for years now and are ready for a change, consider one of these ergonomic alternatives:
The Yoga Ball- Giant sized yoga balls are great for sitting. They are soft, bouncy and encourage good posture. Also they come in any color so you can have fun choosing a color to match your office. Another benefit of using a yoga ball is that you are able to bounce and keep your legs moving throughout the day, which will increase blood circulation to your legs. Just make sure that the ball is big enough or set on a frame will wheels so that you will be able to reach your desk without reaching.
The kneeling chair- This ergonomic alternative puts you in a kneeling position in front of your desk. This alternative seat sitting position shifts your weight in such a way that the stress is removed from your spine and evenly distributed between your hips and knees. If you have knee problems, this may only be a temporary alternative as you may want to return to a normal chair after a spell in a kneeling chair.
The Saddle Chair- As you may guess, this ergonomic alternative seats you a position that is similar to sitting in saddle. The actual seat of the chair is shaped like a saddle so that you are straddling the seat. This position encourages better leg circulation because the legs are hanging instead of bent. The chair is adjustable so that your legs aren’t hanging in midair, but just hanging down to the ground so your feet can rest comfortably on the floor. This type of chair, over time, will encourage good posture and may even strengthen your lower back muscles.
