The temptation to over furnish the babies nursery is almost overwhelming, especially for first time parent. There are many items to buy. The crib, the rocking chair, the changing table, the dresser, and the shelf all seem a necessity to any well furnished nursery. Well, while some of these things are very important, the baby will little notice how much or how little furniture there is in the room.
The crib is obviously of most importance and should be carefully pick out. Today, convertible cribs are the popular thing. A crib that turns to a bed is a great use of material and may make the transition from the crib to a bed a bit easier. The crib is something you should choose carefully since your child will be spending (hopefully) so much it the crib. Also remember that most cribs fall under the category of “some assembly required” so don’t choose something that will be too hard to put together.
The changing table is important, but if you have some other flat surface that is about the same size as the changing pad then you won’t necessarily need to purchase a changing table. An old dresser that is both wide and long enough will serve as an excellent changing station. This is a great way to save money as most changing tables are a little expensive.
Shelves are really only needed in the babies room once there are toys or books to put on the shelf. For the first several months the baby will not care about the shelf or anything on it. So, a shelf is good eventually, but not a necessity for your new infant. A rocking chair is very helpful, but not all babies like to be rocked or find the motion soothing. If you really want to have one just in case, shop around the second hand stores, there are often used glider rockers available.
