Any parent will tell you that toys do not take long to pile up. Before one year has passed your child may have easily built up a whole chest of toys. And here’s the funny side. Out of this whole chest of toys, your child probably plays with just a few of them because he prefers things like cell phones and remotes instead. So the toys build up and the remotes get sticky.
This build up of toys that aren’t played with can cause an organizational nightmare for parents as they try and figure out what to do with all the toys. The best answer is to consider what you do when you have too much junk…donation. Just as your household junk needs going through sometimes, so do your children’s toys.
If your child is attached to every single toy they have even thought they only play with a few items, this going through process will help them to learn the importance of letting go. While this may be hard for the child, help them to understand that giving some of their toys away may help to make other children with fewer toys happy. Helping them to remember that they will get new toys for Christmas and their birthday may help ease their reluctance as well.
Once the unused toys have been donated you will have an easier time organizing the remaining toys. There are many different solutions for toy organization. You can use things as simple as large plastic tubs or you can use more colorful and fun things like animal shaped bins or brightly colored boxes. Most home stores offer child size storage solutions that are both fun and functional. Which ever organizational method you use, the first step will be to consolidate the toys and donate any superfluous items.
