Great Design for Everyday Items

You and your designer can work for months putting together the perfect rooms, yet in the end while you are happy with the end results, something is off. Often there are some very simple reasons that you might be less than thrilled with your home even after you have hired an interior designer. Fortunately, many of these issues are easily fixed.

De-Clutter

Clutter is the mortal enemy of design. Designers hate clutter and most feel that nothing good can come of it. Imagine all the work that it takes to create smooth, clean lines and tight well thought out designs. In an instant, clutter can wreck all of that work. There are easy and relatively inexpensive ways to deal with clutter. The easiest of course is to get your clutter out of the way. Another easy way of tackling it is to simply buy storage solutions or install bookcases that do away with it. Of course, there are expensive storage options, but there are inexpensive ones as well. Consider buying inexpensive storage furniture and putting your clutter in your garage. It is a time-tested trick that works.

Look at Your Everyday Items

Many of the items that you use every day may be having a serious impact on the overall design of your home or individual rooms. If you have a vacuum cleaner, air purifier, litter box or a host of other large, unpleasant looking items, then realize that these things will negatively impact the final look of your room. When you are buying various products for your home, try and find options that will elevate your design or at least have a modern look and feel. For example, if you are purchasing something like computer chairs, opt for ones that are sleek and well-designed. This strategy can carry over to smaller items as well. Simple everyday items that you use in your kitchen, such as a toaster or a coffee pot can definitely stand out, whether good or bad. Considering how such items are impacting your overall design is important and worthy of your attention.

Examine Your Home Carefully

One good way to address these smaller items and their potential negative impact on design is to carefully go through your home room by room. You will likely discover all sorts of items that might need to go. Many of these items may be smaller, and they might be ones that were out of sight when you were working with a designer. For example, maybe you have a particularly unpleasant looking external hard drive in your office or a remote control collection? A great designer will find many of these items to be problems when it comes to enhancing the look and feel of your room. Here is your chance to put all the final touches on your own home and, in the process, be an interior designer yourself.
