My father has always been a fan of the Keep It Simple Stupid or KISS method. KISS could be easily applied to any task and by elementary school I was well versed in the definition of KISS and was frequently reminded of the method throughout the rest of my schooling years. While the term may not be politically polite, it does remind us that simplicity is best, a method that should be remembered and practiced when redecorating a room. This principal is especially important if you are being guided by your own likes and a home decorating magazine.

When broken down and defined, the KISS method simply means that you should not overdo or over stress about anything. An excess of stress will help you little in anything, especially redecorating. So the first thing to consider is what small things can be changed in a room to make it more appealing.

In the living room, consider changing the lamps as your first small step. Updating the lighting can be a fun and easy step toward giving a new look to your room. Another small change to consider could be your wall hangings. Simply exchanging them with those in a different room or even updating the frames could enhance the look of your room. If you have family photos hanging in the room, then replace them with current photos.

In the bathroom and kitchen, changing the towels is one small and easy thing to do that will update the look of the room. Old towels, especially stained ones, can leave a room looking a little dingy and outdated, but fresh bright towels can bring a splash of color and newness to your room. Updating your towels doesn’t have to be an expensive venture; many retail stores carry nice hand towels and department stores frequently have bath towels on sale.

Applying the KISS method to your entire home can result in a décor facelift that is both easy and inexpensive. When we focus on keeping things simple we will realize that the changes with the biggest impact are often the small and simple ones.
