Rebuild or New Build

This world is full of beautiful houses that are the perfect imagery of centuries gone past. If you are thinking of buying one of these beautiful relics you may want to consider whether it will be worth it if the home has not been updated or remodeled. The older homes that so many are drawn to often come with a unique host of challenges for the home owner that may be more costly than they expected.

Depending on the age of the house, owners could be facing electrical problems, limited or no plumbing, little insulation, roof damage, foundational problems, insects and many other problems. The biggest problem the home owner will face is actual habitation of the house. If the home was purchased with the idea that it would be lived in immediately…well it may be rather primitive living while updates and remodels are taking place.

This in mind, great consideration should be given to whether or not it would be easier to build a new home that resembles a period house. An original period home will of course come with a great deal of history that only comes with time and original craftsmanship that few know how to recreate in our modern time. The down side is that you will have to invest time and money beyond the simple purchase of the home. First the home must be bought, which will be expensive because it is a piece of history, and then the home will have to be fixed and updated, which will also be expensive because experts will have to be brought in to complete the job.

A new home build to resemble a period will be full of modern appliances and materials hidden under a skillfully crafted guise. The owner will have the effect of an older home with all the ease of a modern day house. Of course if you are interested in the history of a home then this idea may be insulting, but for those interested in outside appearance only than the imitation of age will be preferred rather than authentic age.
