Reclaiming a Theme

Decorating or redoing your home can be a rough challenge, mentally, physically and economically. But, this feat can also be quite fun and rewarding as you choose all the new elements that you are going to add or change in your home. Buying all new items is an option, but that can be a bit costly and new stuff can lack a certain character that is present in the used. A different option is to decorate and redo your home in used items.

Antique stores are a great place to look when it comes to unique decorations. While some of the items at an antique store may be expensive, there are many items that are not. Using antique plates to decorate the kitchen is a task that could easily be accomplished. Individual plates or old tea cup saucers without a cup are generally not too expensive because they are a single and few people want just one single plate.

Old magazines are also usually one of the cheaper items at an antique store and magazines with unique covers make great wall art. All you need to do is find some with a similar theme, have them framed and then hang them about the room. They will definitely set the theme of the room and prepare it for other like decorations.

Reclaimed wood furniture would be the perfect companion to antique décor. This reclaimed wood will have an older, used look to it, but in a refined, redone sort of way. Reclaimed furniture retains the signs of age which give it character that new furniture lacks. Purchasing reclaimed furniture is also good for the environment since no new wood is being harvested for the completed piece.

In other areas of your home, like the bathroom, you can use reclaimed tiles and light fixtures. Antique lamps and rugs will complete the look of a reclaimed theme. You will be able to boast to guests how nothing in your home is new even though the elegance suggests otherwise.
