There are so many things that we buy new for our homes and yards. A new fence for the vegetable garden, new pictures frames for the hall, new candle holders to decorate the coffee table, new stones for the garden path and so on. But in truth, many home and yard items can be purchased at a used goods store or salvaged from unwanted scrap piles. Here are a few items for your home and yard that don’t need to be bought new from the store.
1. Fencing Material- If your yard or garden is in need of a new fence, you need not bother about buying all new wood. Everyday there is someone that is getting rid of old fence wood or some type of wood scraps that could be easily converted into a rustic style fence. A little work is needed to cut the wood to size and removing any offending pieces, but in the end you can have a simply, country looking fence built by free wood scraps.
2. Picture Frames- Second had stores, or even antique stores generally have a good supply of art work that nobody wants anymore. Many times the pictures are nothing great, but they are framed. If you like the frame then you can buy the whole thing and discard the picture and put your own in the frame. This method works especially well if you are into the eclectic look.
3. Paving Stones- Garden paths can add a lovely touch of beauty to any yard, but you have to buy the stones or bricks, which can cost a bundle in the end. But, bricks like fencing material are something that people are often willing to give away if you are willing to pick it up. Construction sites are also good places to seek after extra bricks or other kinds of paving stones.
4. In Door Plant Pots- If you like to have in door plants, chances are you want them to be some sort of attractive pot. Planting pots are also something that second hand stores generally have in abundance. They will be much cheaper than and usually just as nice as a new store bought one. Just make sure that the used pot has a drainage hole in the bottom; you don’t want to drown your house plants.
