Round the Table

The most common place to eat dinner at is in the living or family room in front of the television. Today the coffee table is often set with the dinner needs rather than the table and dinner conversation has been replaced with the latest sitcoms. The kitchen or dining table is little more than a place to store mail, newspapers and other random junk. If you have grown wary of the lack of communication in your family and would like to actually use your table as it was intended, then here are some ideas on how to get your family around the table.

The Table- Make sure that your table is suited to your needs. Maybe you bought the table when you had lots of people living at home and now it is just too big, or maybe you bought the table when it was just you and your partner in the house and it is too small. Whatever the reasoning, if your table is not the right size, sitting around it may not be comfortable. Invest in a table that people want to sit at.

Clutter- Make sure that all the clutter is cleared from the table, not just shoved to one side. Your table will have more dining appeal if the surface is free from distraction.

Chairs- Make sure that everyone has a seat suited to them. So make sure the smaller children have any necessary booster seats and make sure that your chairs are comfortable. Well fed and comfortable people are in less of a rush to leave the table.

Table Cloth/Placemats- Table cloths or placemats are not necessary, but they can make a table more attractive. Sometimes the simple addition of a pretty table cloth or placemat will make your table more appealing. Flowers and candles will also add visual appeal to your table.
