Safety for your Stuff

When we stow a box into the garage for storage we little think of any dangers that the box or its contents may face. But, your garage may be home to a whole host of unwanted visitors. Spiders and bugs can creep in easily enough, but mice or rats may also find your garage an inviting place to set up shop. Simple card board boxes may not be sufficient to keep your possession safe. Here are some alternatives to the traditional card board moving box.

1. Plastic bins- Larger plastic bins are stronger and will be more likely to stand up against nibbling teeth. Simple plastic bins are not overly expensive and they can stack nicely on top of each other. These can also be used over and over again without much ware. Cardboard boxes will begin to break down after a while as will the tape holding them closed.

2. Garment Bags- Air tight garment bags are wonderful for storing all manner of objects that you wanted protected from the elements. Blankets, coats, books, anything really. The bags will go a long way to keep spiders and other vermin from damaging your treasures.

3. Milk crates- Milk crates are great for storing sturdy or heavy items that don’t need as much protection from the elements. The crates are designed to hold a good amount of weight and they have handles, so they are easy to move. Books that have been protected by a bag will easily fit into a milk crate.

4. Tool Box/Chest- This is almost a necessity for any garage. The tool chest will provide one central location for all the tools and it will keep them out of plain sight so children won’t be as tempted to play with and hurt themselves with anything. For extra security, locking toolboxes are easy to buy.
