Sizing up Furniture

I have a friend who is short…very short. Her mother is short, her father is short, her grandmother is short. This is not so bad except for the fact that she seldom finds a couch that fits her. Like a little girl, her legs are forever dangling a few inches from the floor. This problem of finding a couch to fit her legs and body is actually becoming worse as furniture becomes more modern. The designs are simply not suited for people with short legs.

Finding a couch to fit you size is very important and can be rather problematic for both the very short and the very tall. An ill sized couch may be comfortable for a spell but soon the newness wares off and you are stuck with a couch that is meant for a different sized person. Soon you become weary of dangling your feet then you become weary of slouching in order to get your feet to touch the ground. A couch is meant to be a place of comfort and easy, not struggle and compromise.

So, if you are couch shopping on line it is important to know how deep a chair or couch should be so that you will be comfortable. The best way to get a good estimate is to measure the distance from your hips to the knee joint on the back of your leg. A good couch should cut you right at the back of your knee causing your leg to nicely bend and then hang straight down and touch the floor. The ideal seated position is on in which there is very little room between the back of your knee and the cushion you are sitting on. Having a properly sized chair will make life much better as you will be able to sit properly without hurting your back or neck.
