Smart Ways to Work from Home

There are many benefits to working at home. Many employers see the benefit of having employees work at home whenever possible, and slowly the practice has been gaining in popularity. No doubt this rise in people working at home is due in large part to the technological breakthroughs that have made doing so a possibility. Technology, such as email, the Internet, video conferencing and the personal computer, has all converged to a point where working at home isn’t just possible, but often makes the most sense.

As we spend more time working at home, it is a good idea to give these workspaces more attention. A decade ago, the home office was a space that many people would spend just a few random hours in during the week. Increasingly, however, the home office is taking on more importance. With this increased importance, the home office for many is transforming into a place where many of us spend a great deal of time. Taking this fact into consideration, it makes great sense to think about the interior design of your home office. The days of simply having a desk, great office chairs and a computer are long over.

Clutter is Not Your Friend

No matter how you decide to use your home office space, the bottom line is that you want to decrease your clutter. Clutter doesn’t just make finding what you need harder, but it is depressing as well. Most of us just don’t like being surrounded by piles of disorganized junk as we try and tackle a mound of work. Having clutter in your workspace is really quite harmful psychologically and should be avoided at all cost. When your desk and computer chairs are covered with paperwork and useless items, it will tend to crush your productivity. Consider investing in some quality storage such as bookcases or wall shelving.

Think About Colors

When you are setting up your home office or remodeling, think about color. An interior designer will be able to help you choose the colors that work best with your personality and your workspace. Keep in mind that bold, bright colors might not be what you are looking for; instead, more subtle and soothing colors may be better suited to an office. Consider adding a canvas painting or print to liven up your walls. Ultimately, keeping your space clutter free and using color to create the proper mood can go a very long way towards making the most out of your home office space.
