Since my child has started crawling and playing everywhere, my house has exploded with toys, everywhere I look I see a toy, or a pile of toys. This combined with a lack of time has lead to the dishearten scene of a messy house. DVD’s are strewn about from the pile he toppled over, the remotes are lying about in every odd place and laundry from nights ago is still piled on the couch. The perfect solution would be a nanny/maid, but as that is unlikely to happen, the next best thing is better storage. I just need better living room storage, but not ugly attic bins.

After some thought I have decided that what I need is an ottoman, but not a normal one, I need an ottoman with compartments, or bins or drawers. In our living room, we always have blankets left lying around and an ottoman that opened up like a trunk would be the ideal place for storing these blankets. Drawers would be the perfect spot for the remotes and bins could hold the DVD’s that don’t fit into the entertainment center.

While an ottoman does clear up the problem of living clutter without being an eyesore, there is still the problem of all the toys. The bright storages boxes that are for his room just don’t mesh with the colors in the living room. A miniature hutch with cupboards or a book case with drawers on the bottom would nicely hide the plethora of toys without the bright primary colors. The top half of the hutch or cupboard could display my lovely trinkets while the bottom half could house toys. Nobody would ever need to know that the furniture’s sole purpose would be hiding the child’s toys.

Hutches, bookcases and ottomans are wonderful furniture options when it comes to subtly with storage space. They can all carry a look of elegance while housing hidden storage spaces. These furniture options are a wonderful way to introduce sneaky storage into your home.
