The Throne

One of the overlooked, but sometimes much coveted seats in the house is your toilet. Seriously, everyone spends hours each week sitting on the toilet. This in mind, your toilet is a pretty important part of your house and should not be just some cheap second hand model. Comfort and efficiency must be considered for this most honored seat.

If you are the owner of an older home you know full well the advantages of replacing the original toilets. Some older toilets are rather short, which if you are short or are a child this is advantageous, but for the rest of us the feeling of falling when we are going to sit on the toilet is rather irksome. Also older toilets are harder to clean because the bowls may not always be smooth so there are odd placed creases and niches to try and scrub out, which no one likes to do. Finely over used, over aged toilets can develop a stench that is most undesirable.

Replacing your toilet is a great first step in giving your bathroom new life. Before you purchase your new toilet you should consider three things: efficiency, comfort and style. The average toilet uses over three gallons of water per flush. Those gallons add up over the days and increase your water bill. So a toilet that uses less water will be easier on your wallet and better for the environment.

As far as style goes, there are really only two styles of toilets to choose from: one piece toilets and two piece toilets. One piece toilets will generally be a little more expensive but they do often times provide an air of elegance that a two piece toilet lacks. The standard two piece toilet (tank and bowl) will usually be available in more colors and be more affordable. As far as seats go you can always change them out to your preferred choice. Seats usually come in wood, plastic or vinyl covered for more cushion. Which ever seat you choose, just make sure that the hinges are sturdy so they won’t shift as you do.
