Like most college students, I didn’t have a lot of spare cash. What with the cost of books, and class notes, there was sometimes little left for food. So, when it came time to move out of the dorms with some gal pals, we all gave ourselves over to scrounging. All of our parents had garages with useless bits of furniture of had friends that didn’t need that bookcase anymore, so eventually we had enough hand-me-down furniture for an apartment. We even managed to find a free television and entertainment stand.
Being in college and being broke can spark the creative side of thinking, especially when it comes to furniture. Free and makeshift is usually the preferred methods where decorating and furnishing is concerned. So, here are some ideas on how to find an entertainment set for your living room with little to no cost.
Like most pieces of college furniture the best way to come by an entertainment centre is to scrounge, but these can be easily made as well. All you need for the homemade entertainment centre is a few cinder blocks and some planks of wood. First you should make a strong base of about three bricks, placing the wood plank on top. Then use two more bricks on either end of the plank and then place another plank on top of this one. Repeat this until you’ve created a well sized entertainment set. You should be warned though; these entertainment sets should not be built too high for safety purposes.
Once this is built, you will have a sturdy, shelf like entertainment set that will be strong enough to hold your television and gaming devices. In addition, you can store your DVD’s at the very bottom, in between the cinder blocks. So for little money and little money, you can create an inexpensive solution to your unorganized wires and gaming station.
