Why You Should Not Use Your Bedroom as a Home Office

A home office is increasingly becoming a must in our modern lifestyle. Whether you are single or married, the home office is often a necessity. The temptation to place the home office inside one’s bedroom can be quite a temptation indeed. Space restrictions, especially in large metropolitan areas such as New York City, for example, often facilitate the placement of the home office in the bedroom. But this is definitely not the right move for a variety of reasons.

Your Bedroom Should Be Tranquil

Ask any interior designer and he or she will tell you that your bedroom should be a tranquil area. When you enter your bedroom, you should be entering a space where your mind and subconscious feels freed from the burdens of the day. Your bedroom should be a special place where you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Of course, often the stress of the day means work and administrative related issues. Thus, having your desk chair and desk staring you in the face while you are trying to sleep just isn’t a good move. Many people find that having their computer chairs in their bedroom means that they cannot get their mind of work all night long. If work is causing you stress, then trying to unwind from a long day of work isn’t going to be made any easier by looking at office chairs and mountains of paperwork late at night and first thing in the morning.

Insomnia, Your Bedroom and Your Home Office

Insomnia is becoming an increasingly serious issue, and many people are simply not getting enough sleep and restorative sleep. This, in turn, can have a serious impact on health, causing premature aging, increasing the risk for disease and infection and affecting job performance. Sleep is vitally important, thus merging your bedroom with your home office could cause serious problems. In a word, find another place for your home office.

Considering how important having a dedicate office space is, it is only prudent to find ways to make it happen. While it may be tempting to have your office space in your bedroom, at the end of the day, it is less than an optimal solution. Taking the time to investigate and explore alternatives and different approaches is likely time very well spent. Having your office clutter removed and out of sight pays a variety of dividends including one that is difficult to put a price upon, namely being more relaxed and calm.
